This immersive adventure brings you face-to-face with a world few people ever get to experience. Walk forest trails alive with birdsong, butterflies, and the rustle of wildlife in the canopy. With guidance from local field guides, you’ll search for cotton-top tamarins in the wild and learn how these tiny primates survive in a rapidly changing landscape.

Join an expertly guided 3-mile hike through tropical dry forest, where you’ll have the chance to see cotton-top tamarins in the wild and discover the incredible plants and wildlife that call this region home. Along the way, you’ll meet local artisans, farmers, and dedicated conservation leaders who will share how their work is helping protect forest habitat and secure a future for cotton-top tamarins.


  • $255 per person
  • Minimum of 2 to maximum of 12 people per adventure
  • > 8 years of age are welcome to participate
  • Round trip transportation from your hotel in Cartagena/Barranquilla departing at 6:30am
  • You will return to Cartagena after lunch
  • Translations services (Spanish to English) are available
  • Welcome snack and a delicious lunch prepared especially for you with local ingredients
  • Your donation is shared with local communities in payment for their services

Tips for a Great Experience in the Forest

  • Dress appropriately to maximize your safety in the forest. You must wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, hat, and sturdy tennis shoes or hiking boots.
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle as we are trying to reduce the amount of single use plastic bottles.
  • Bring sunscreen and insect repellent

Cotton-top Tamarin Adventure Tours

Your adventure begins approximately one hour from Cartagena, along Colombia’s Caribbean coast, where you will explore the unique tropical dry forest of northern Colombia on a guided 3-mile hike. Specially designed trails offer opportunities to observe the region’s diverse flora and fauna, including the critically endangered cotton-top tamarin—found only in Colombia. Watch these curious monkeys in their natural habitat, capture incredible photos, and learn to recognize and interpret their distinctive chirps and whistles. Along the way, you may also spot vibrant birds, butterflies, and other wildlife that call this forest home.

The experience also includes time with local farmers to learn about traditional crops and eco-friendly agricultural practices that help protect forest habitat. Enjoy a freshly prepared lunch while meeting United Nations Development Program award-winning artisans who create beautiful, hand-made tote bags crocheted from recycled plastic bags. Hear their inspiring stories, see their craftsmanship firsthand, and browse locally made products. Your visit directly supports community-led conservation efforts that benefit both local families and cotton-top tamarins.

We invite you to join with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 12 people. Children 8 years or older are welcome to participate.

Your donation of $255 per person includes:

  2. An expertly guided tour through the forest to see cotton-top tamarins and native flora and fauna of the region as well as opportunities to meet local conservation leaders

If you must cancel your tour the following refund policy applies:

  • More than 30 days to departure: 100% refund
  • Less than 14 days to departure 75% refund
  • Less than 7 days to departures 25% refund
  • Less than 24 hours or no shows, no refund
